A nice nature center west of Boca Raton on the edge of the Everglades. Its name comes from the Daggerwing butterfly which is frequently seen in the area. The nature center is in a massive regional park which has golf courses, a water park and an amphitheater. There are also numerous picnic tables and pavilions around the nature center and park.
If you like butterflies, they got you covered as soon as you walk in by the butterfly crossing.
When we arrived, we were greeted by a volunteer planting in the butterfly garden, which, she informed us hosts up to 17 species of butterfly.
The boardwalk offers some spectacular views of the native vegetation and environment. The boardwalk is wide, clean and well maintained.
The observation tower at the east end of the boardwalk allows you to see the trees and water from above.
If you like birds, they got you covered before you even start the trail.
Animals that have been spotted at the nature center include osprey, blue jays, woodpeckers, butterflies, turtles, and alligators.
Small hint: When you get to the boardwalk, jump up and down on the bridge a bit and the turtles and alligators will come swimming up to you. A few hops and sure enough the turtles and the small gator appeared!
The center itself is a fun and interactive place for kids and adults to experience a small, taste of Florida nature up close and personal. Their exhibit room is stunning and informative.
There is no cost to visit. It’s perfect for kids or anyone who loves nature.
They also have daily animal feedings.
The Daggerwing Nature Center is located inside of Burt Aaronson South County Regional Park with many other things to do. Nice way to spend an hour or so if you are looking for a nice quiet walk.
